Mahindra launches the all-new e2o electric car in the UK
Come every new launch, there’s an upbeat fervour mounting in the market.
With an attempt to close the price gaps between the diesel and electric car, Mahindra & Mahindra entered the UK automotive market with its signature electric car, the Mahindra e2o. The London’s Design Museum experienced this launch, where Anand Mahindra unveiled the car’s price and specifications.
Introducing an upgraded version of its Indian counterpart, G-Wiz, the Mahindra e2o will be available in two trim levels. The TechX version differentiates itself from the other due to its touchscreen infotainment centre with reversing camera, revived remote emergency recharging, telematics, alloy wheels, leather seats and a rapid charging port. The entry-level e2o City will be priced at £12,995, while, the other higher-spec TechX version will be marked at £15,995.
Comparatively, the e20 is more expensive than Renault Twizy, starting at £6895, but cheaper than Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf, that comes to £18,445 and £25,790. Moreover, Mahindra will be offering a finance scheme for the e2o. This scheme will mainly include the hire purchase and business leasing options. According to Mahindra, the owners who are able to attain an average of 7,900 miles per year and who charge their cars at night will pay no more than £10 a month for fuel.
The Mahindra e2o has a top speed of 63mph achieving 0-25mph in 4.9sec, while 0-50mph takes 18sec.The 13.9k Wh lithium-ion battery can roar a 42bhp electric motor power with 67lb ft torque. Both the versions are equipped with a fast charging option of just about 1.5 hours. Mahindra also offers a remote emergency feature, benefitting the driver up to 8 miles of range if the battery goes off the bay. Moreover, there are onboard sensors that will send the car’s data to Mahindra that allows them to monitor health and customer alerts.
With more advancement in line, the e2o is equipped with dual SRS airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock braking systems with a standard regenerative braking system. The TechX model features the touchscreen infotainment system which offers satellite navigation. Furthermore, we have got a Wi-Fi hotspot connection, Bluetooth, SD card, USB, DAB radio, and a built-in reversing camera available all at once!
